You know when you go out to dinner and no one is talking because the food is so good? Well, rainbow ooblek is kind of like that. It’s mesmerizing. One minute it’s a solid, the next it’s a slippery liquid that seeps through your fingers the moment you pick it up. I couldn’t get one child to look up for a photo the entire time we played with it. Everyone was just way too busy.
Ooblek (I have no idea where it got this name) is super easy to make. Just mix food coloring and water in cornstarch until it becomes gooey. I mix the food coloring in the water first before I pour it in. It can last for hours. You just may need to add a little water and mush it around if it starts to get hard. Kids and adults love this stuff. It’s safe to eat and totally fascinating to touch. I highly recommend you try it. It was a great play group activity that appealed to all the different age groups. And aren’t the colors so pretty?
