This was seriously, seriously fun! Well, not so serious. Last week at play group we kept the sun shining with ice cream dough made from equal parts salt, water, and flour (about a cup each) and a bit of corn meal and food coloring. The result was a fantastic creamy texture that looked just like old fashioned ice cream. It was so cool. I put out some colored cones, ice cream scoopers and sprinkles and the kids had a field day. They loved everything from scooping up the ice cream to running their fingers through the sprinkles. I think the best part though, was crunching the cones. The crackle and crunch was so exciting to the kids. Not to mention, everything looked so incredibly pretty! This was a super fun activity I can’t wait to do again. For the next three days Gigi kept saying “Mama, mama, let’s make ice cream!”
I’m so terrified of “just eye-ball it” recipes! You said about a cup each of salt, flour, & water. How much is “a bit” of cornmeal? 1/4 cup? Tablespoon? 😉
Thanx so much for the awesome idea! Can’t wait to try with my 15 month old!
Ha! Ok, I haven’t done this in a while but if I had to give you an exact measurement I would say 1/4 cup sounds right. If you put it in and it doesn’t make it more ice cream like, try a table spoon more until the consistency looks like hard ice cream. Most importantly, have fun with it! It doesn’t have to be perfect. Your 15 month old won’t judge ; )
Thank you! I will start w/ a 1/4 cup & go from there. I bought her colored cake cones & sprinkles. Cannot wait to try this with Talia! Thank you agian for such a quick reply ❤️
Terrific! Keep me posted!
This was a HUGE hit with my two year old son. We loved the crunch of the cones, loved the sprinkles, and loved squishing the “ice cream!” We even brought our favorite things in the world, cars and trucks, into the mix and drove them all through the sprinkles. SO much fun. Thanks!
Awesome!!!! Thanks so much for letting me know! Those cones are so much fun. And I love that you added cars. Just awesome!
What is the recipe for this activity?
