Seriously, BlogMeMom is a genius! If you are not familiar with Suja’s amazing blog, please oh please check it out immediately. You will find countless amazing, gorgeous, super fun and engaging science and art activities. I’ve tried a bunch of them and am always super pleased with how they turn out. But this, THIS ONE RIGHT HERE, is the mothership! Seriously, this super simple sensory science activity for kids is so freaking amazing. Every kid loves it. It’s cheap, easy to do and gorgeous beyond words.
These pics are from art camp with kids 3-5. Everyone had a blast with this activity. There was intense concentration, questioning, answering, pondering, and giggles. Lots of giggles. This activity has it all. I do it all the time for play group with kids 1 year – 3 years and it’s awesome!
I mean, just look at these faces! The kids were either completely fascinated or bubbling over with joy.
I, on the other hand, was freaking out over how gorgeous it all looked in the light. WOW. I couldn’t take pictures fast enough. Seriously, the next time you have a play date you must do this. 2 kids, 3 kids, 5 kids, just do it! They will love it! You’ll be the coolest mom on the block.
So thank you BlogMeMom. You have given us hours of fun over and over again and we are truly grateful.

Seriously, I didn’t even realize 🙂 Just go do this. It’s awesome.
This looks awesome!! My son is so into volcanoes right now, and my daughter loves anything to do with colors, and they both like watching things fizz like this. I will definitely be doing this!
I’ve never seen clear egg cartons before. I wonder if this would look as cool with those styrofoam egg cartons….probably still cool, but not as cool.
I think the styrofoam ones would still be pretty cool if you get the white ones. The colors will still show up nicely. Have fun!!!
Very neat activity! We did try this a while ago, BUT my kids were not too pleased with the smell, do you have any tips to tone down the smell? I really would love to do this again, but my son just has memories of the “bad smell” 🙁
Hi Emily, I know, the smell isn’t great. Definitely better if you take it outside. Lemon juice works really well too instead of vinegar. You can try that but it’s more costly.
I can’t believe I never commented on this post!!! Meri — your shots are amazing and I’m so glad your lucky playgroup kids had tons of FUN!!!
Ha. I think it was during your hiatus : ) We LOVE this activity and have done it a million times! Thanks Suja!!!
Any tips to control the mess factor if don’t this indoors? Would you put the egg carton in another bigger container to catch the extra liquid?
